Connect Search Console

Google Search Console holds your real clicks, impressions and positions. Connecting it fills in your dashboard and Results page, and shows which pages are close to ranking higher. Without it, pangoling works from third-party search estimates only.

Only a workspace admin can connect it.

Connect with your Google account

  1. Open Settings, then Connections, and choose Connect Google Search Console. You can also do this during setup.
  2. Sign in with the Google account that has access to the site in Search Console.
  3. On Google's consent screen, tick the checkbox that mentions Search Console data. Google shows it as optional. If you skip it, the connection signs in but cannot read anything.
  4. Back in pangoling, pick the property for your site if it was not matched automatically.

The first pull starts as soon as the property is set. After that, data refreshes on its own, and Sync now is next to the connection when you want fresher numbers. Google's own data runs about three days behind.

Picking the right property

Search Console has two kinds of property:

  • a domain property (sc-domain:example.com) that covers every subdomain and protocol,
  • a URL-prefix property (https://www.example.com/) that covers one address.

Pick the one that matches the site this workspace grows. If both exist, the domain property is usually the better choice because it sees everything.

Only the person who connected the Google account can browse its properties and change the choice later, because the list shows everything that account can see.

When something goes wrong

Disconnecting stops updates. Data that was already synced stays.

Without OAuth: a service account

If your organisation cannot use the Google sign-in, there is an advanced option in the same card. Paste a Google service-account key (the JSON file, including client_email and private_key), then add that service account's email as a user on the property in Search Console. It is used only when there is no Google sign-in connection.
